14/Apr/2010 –
After playing at home, Tottenham got an important result today, 14th April. The squad beat Arsenal 2-1 in the 34th round of the English Championship after an 11-year-long scoreless streak against their archrival.
After this victory, the squad, which count on goalkeeper Gomes, have managed to keep themselves in the competition for a slot in the European championships.
Tottenham took an early lead 9 minutes into the derby when Danny Rose hit an absolute bullet. Seconds after the re-start, Bale doubled the advantage. Bendtner’s 40th minute strike came to spark an Arsenal comeback.
‘It was a hard match, mainly in the final minutes. This was a timely victory and it gave us strength for the following games which will be as hard because of our position in the game schedule. We still intend to keep fighting to remain among the four leading positions’, stated the Brazilian goalkeeper, who has been nominated as the best goalkeeper on the pitch.
After this victory, Tottenham got 61 points and they have achieved 5th place in the League, only one point behind 4th place Manchester City.
Spurs’ line-up is training in one period this Thursday, 15th April, to get ready for the match against the leader Chelsea at the weekend.
